…and Paris Hilton is about to be.. In jail that is. Maybe next time she will pay more attention to the rules of the road. Anyway, enough about her. Pirates 3 star Johnny Depp took home a trophy with producer Jerry Bruckheimer. It’s funny how Depp even managed to land his role in the popular movies. Apparently everybody thought he was not going to work out when they first started filming on the first movie. Then at the awards Bruckheimer was quoted saying “This is the man who did it all right here, Johnny Depp. Without him, we wouldn’t be here.” That’s probably true, and I find this pretty funny considering that Orlando Bloom and Kierra Knighly were both successful actors before the Pirates series as well.

Bloom had just finished coming off of his role as Legolas the elf in Lord of the Rings when he took the role of Will Turner in the popular pirate movies. I find it even more funny to know that originally Depp truly was planned to be a bad unlikable character in the script. Apparently his personality and “actual bad guy” didn’t entirely jive and instead we are left with a drunk pirate with too much eye shadow and a taste for rum. He certainly stole the show though. Without him, the pirates movies would be nothing more than Legolas and “that L’Oreal model from Pride & Prejudice.”

On a closing note, 9-year old Jaden Smith (son of Will Smith) won the award of “breakthrough performance” for his role playing Christopher Gardner’s (Will Smith) son in “The Pursuit of Happyness.” If you haven’t seen that movie yet I would definitely recommend it. It is very inspirational and shows you a true story about a man who chose not to be denied.

There’s a new site out called Funny or Die. Will Ferrell apparently helped them out by doing a film short for only $5,000. That’s definitely a lot less than he makes normally of course, but the cut in pay seems to have paid off. The new site Funny or Die has been getting a lot of traffic because of his video. I’m sure he’s getting some more compensation on the side but even if he’s not, I’m sure he’s been paid a little bit more since then…

Video: The Landlord (and of course the out takes!)

Video: Will Ferell as George Bush (always a crowd pleaser!)

Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton.. Rosie… What do all of these people have in common? Well, first of all let’s get one thing straight. Rosie O’Donnell is up to no good in general, but the other three here have recently spiraled down paths that make everyone wonder what will happen next. Paris is in jail as far as I know, Lindsay Lohan is in rehab, and Britney Spears may or may not be in rehab. She’s been in and out so much lately it’s hard to know for sure what she is up to at this exact moment.

As far as I’m concerned, Rosie got fired so what is the deal with the news following her anymore. Does anybody honestly even care? I sure don’t. As for Britney, Lindsay, and Paris, if they are smart they should be able to turn their careers around and step back into a positive light in time. Let me say that again.. if they are SMART.. That’s a big piece of the problematic puzzle right now. You would think that after a while they would learn some lessons but it seems that they are constantly in the news over and over again for the same things. Drunken party mayhems. Drunken driving. Some more drunken partying. Breakups, getting back together, breaking up again. When will the tabloid bait stop?

Arnold was back in Terminator 3 a few years ago. Rocky 6 just came out last year. A new Rambo movie is on the way. Die Hard 4 is coming out next month. Indiana Jones is supposedly preparing to return to the big screen. Unlike Star Wars, where for the most part all of the actors were replaced in the new movies, there seem to be a lot of old actors going back and picking up roles they played 30+ years ago.

I never saw Rocky Balboa (Rocky 6 basically) so I can’t comment on it directly, but the whole idea of this is kind of annoying. If this trend continues what should we expect several years down the road? Maybe a Matrix 4, 5, and 6? Maybe some more Jurassic Park movies? Seriously though, some movies like James Bond are totally welcome year after year, but at some point I would think that a movie has to have it’s “shelf life” of some sort.

Movies like Spiderman, Shrek, and Pirates of the Caribbean have done their sequels right. In my opinion a sequel should come out within 5 years from the original movie. Otherwise you have to deal with obvious things like actors getting older and people loosing interest. I’m a Star Wars fan and I loved the prequels that came out just a few years ago. Sure they weren’t the best movies ever made, but as a Star Wars fan I enjoyed them. I’m glad that George Lucas made them but the big question is will he be able to stop making more? I don’t know. The real issue here is when people make sequels for movies that there wasn’t really a demand from fans for. Indiana Jones was an awesome Trilogy. I’m really not sure if this next one can be any good. I did watch the new Die Hard trailer and it actually looks pretty good. I doubt it will come close to the original but you never know. Bruce Willis really hasn’t missed a beat for a while now.  Anyway, it will be interesting to see how all this movie reviving turns out but I’m not going to bother even crossing my fingers just yet.

The big news following the new “Simpson’s Movie” scheduled to be released this July is the confirmed rumor that moviegoers will witness a fully nude Bart Simpson in the feature film. Yes, you read that right. Viewers will be seeing a little bit more of 10 year old Bart Simpson than they expected to, and I’m not just talking about a “mooning.” The Simpson’s movie will be pushing the envelope with full frontal cartoon nudity. What’s even more interesting is that they expect to receive a PG-13 or less rating.

There is one reason and one reason alone to feature animated genitals in a movie aimed at really anybody under 30. That reason is to attract media attention and get a lot of free publicity. In fact I would even go so far as to say that this whole thing could very well be a very well played out marketing scam. Think about it. They create a huge amount of controversy. They get a lot of free press while the world debates whether or not cartoon nudity is ok or not. Then, after they aren’t happy with the rating the movie receives, they pull the scene, drop back to a PG-13 or PG rating and then release an “Unedited Extended Edition” DVD with the scene added back in.

You can never be sure with the Simpson’s though. The show has gone where many shows have not dared go before. This truly is the next shocking step. Will it be accepted by fans? Only time will tell.
